Albatross
Albatross is a Manchester based Classic Rock/ Blues band. They formed in June 2021, and take influences from a large variety of musicians. Overall, their main influences include Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Fleetwood Mac. With Alex Slaven on drums, and Sam Crowther on bass, the rhythm and soul of the band is locked in tight. Jack Wild was originally the rhythm guitarist with Scott Bentley on lead, but after months of searching, Scott decided to take on the role as the lead singer, and with that, Jack became the lead guitarist. Together, they form a tight and tasteful classic rock band.
How We Started
May - 2021
Albatross was formed at the end of May, 2021 and was the brainchild of Alex Slaven, the band’s drummer. The first person that came to mind for Alex was Scott Bentley. Bentley had previously talked with Slaven in the past about their shared love for the Classic Rock and Blues genres from yesteryear. Before the band was fully realised, they jammed together along with their future second guitarist, Jack Wild, or ‘Wildy’ as he’s called. In the jam, with Bentley on bass, they played Rock and Roll and Voodoo Chile, and it was at this moment they realised how well they all gelled together. However, they realised they were missing a piece of the puzzle: a bass player. Immediately, someone came to mind for Slaven. In the past, he had played with a bass player named Sam Crowther in previous projects. He, in Slaven’s words, was “The perfect option”. Crowther accepted straight away, and, although he had never even played with neither Wildy nor Bentley, was confident that something would come of this group. Then, not one month after the band’s inception, they jammed together for the first time in their college’s stage room. Here, they jammed around the foundations of what would become their staple tracks, such as the reimagining of a Little Willie John track called ‘You Hurt Me’, and their two only originals at the time: Rolling Thunder, and Goes Down Easy. It would be at this jam that the first pictures of the band would be taken where they were on stage. It wouldn’t be until January of 2022 that Scott decided to take a crack at singing, and as it turned out, his voice perfectly suited the band's style. So, Scott decided to hang up the guitar and instead adopt the role as the singer for Albatross. With the band now complete, all that was left was for them to write lyrics to all their tracks before they would unleash their sound to the world.
